Joint Commission International Accreditation (2008-2010)

Penang Adventist Hospital has been awarded with JCI Accreditation for an initial 3 years (2008-2010), by meeting international safety & quality healthcare standards.  More about PAH JCI accreditation...

Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative
& Full 3 Years MSQH Accreditation (2005)

Penang Adventist Hospital has achieved BFHI status (Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative) for the accreditation period December 2005 to December 2007 and MSQH status (2nd Full Accreditation Malaysian Society for Quality in Health) for the accreditation period October 2005 to October 2008.

BFHI is a global programme launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and supported by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. This is to encourage and recognize hospitals and maternity centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding, which includes protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding. PAH is the first among 11 private hospitals in Penang to obtain the accreditation following the implementation of the ten steps to successful breastfeeding formulated by WHO and UNICEF. Only 5 out of 222 private hospitals and maternity centers in the country have implemented the BFHI to promote breastfeeding.

MSQH is a member of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) and also affliated with ISQua Federation, a federated structure that oversees healthcare accreditation programmes worldwide. It is also a member of the Accreditation Federation Council that has influence in worldwide directions and developments in healthcare accreditation and standards.

The double accreditation is the culmination of a collective team effort put up by the management, doctors and staff in substantially complying with all the specifications and requirements of BFHI and MSQH standards of safety, quality and documentation. This simply shows that the hospital has safe quality services and a good management system.

Full 3 Years MSQH Accreditation (2002) Awarded by The Malaysia Society for Quality in Health

PAH embarked into yet another accreditation with the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) on November 25, 26 and 27, 2002, and has awarded full 3 years accreditation (28 November 2002 to 27 November 2005), making it the first mission and not-for-profit hospital in the country to receive the prestigious recognition for complying with the MSQH standards.

This is another important milestone for PAH in its quality journey towards safe, excellent healthcare and services for the community. Customers can visit accredited hospitals with the confidence that they got quality and safe care.

PAH management and members of the accrediting body
Preparation for the Hospital Accreditation started October 1998 as we knew around June or July 2000, we will be accredited again. Internal survey forms were passed out to the department heads to complete within a month. However, we were in a shock when a letter from Adventist Health came stating that the Accrediting Team will be visiting us in March instead!

March 14-16, 1988 were PAH's "Judgment Days"! Four accreditors from Adventist Healthcare came to accredit us, they are Mr Mardian Blair, just retired Administrator of38 hospitals in USA, Dr Bevan Geslani, an Internist from Guam, Mrs Myrna Dial, a Registered Nurse from Guam and Ms Thelma Selerio, president of Adventist Healthcare South Asia-Pacific Division.

The three-day program moved smoothly as planned. We were encouraged as the conclusion was "We Made It!" for a full four-year accreditation.

The team spirit shown and the concerted effort to each and everyone right from top administration to the grassroots are commendable. I would like to personally thank those whom I have worked with during those crucial period before the accreditation. Above all, I would like to thank God for His continuous blessings, guidance and answered prayers. As a team, let us push on to reach greater heights for His Glory!
