Community Involvement

Hong Weng's mother gets some helpers - Heart Patients' Fund Chairperson, Lim Chooi Eng, and Rotary Club of Penang President, Michael Chen

The Gift of Life 2001 continues to touch more lives and mend more hearts.  To date, 24 Cambodians, ten Malaysians, two Indonesians and one Filippino have benefited from the Programme.

The Gift of Life Programme - Penang is not simply a partnership between Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Penang and Penang Adventist Hospital, but rather a community effort.

Various hoteliers such as Copthorne Orchid Hotel, Penang Parkroyal Resort and Sheraton Perdana Langkawi Resort have brought a little cheer and a lot of smiles to the faces of the children and their mothers.

Copthorne's master of magicians, Robert Chan shares some magic with the heart patients
Robert Chan, Entertainment Manager of Copthorne Orchid Hotel was at the Adventist Hospital to present a magic show for the children.  Enjoying every bit of what he does, he says, "Nothing beats seeing a smile on a child’s face!" Thanks for bringing a little joy and a lot of love to the children, Robert!

Penang Parkroyal Resort has celebrated two important events with the Cambodian children... the first was Mother’s Day and recently the Lantern Festival. These two events are not celebrated in Cambodia — thanks for sharing with them some Malaysian cultures!

Rotarian and professional hairdresser, Lloyd Yeoh styles away with his scissors and hands
The children were given some monkey business to take care of.  Thanks to Diane Curtis, Director of Sales and Marketing at Sheraton Perdana Langkawi Resort who brought along the resort’s mascot, Chiki, a miniature monkey that now lives in the homes of some new hearts!

Sharing and giving comes in various forms.  20 Youth Links of People’s Progressive Party led by Dato’ Dr. Loga Bala Mohan shared their love for the needy children through the gift of blood.  Through their gift of blood, many more hearts were mended and lives changed!

Love Soy shows their love for heart patients

Special thanks to the Tay family who have made it a point to always go an extra mile to give love and hope to each new group!

Leaving Cambodia to come to a foreign land is the first step the children and their parents take in changing their lives. The second step is accepting with open arms the hospitality given by the local community… thanks to everyone who has made a lifetime of difference in the life of a child today!
