Heart Patients' Fund

The Heart Patients' Fund Logo

The Heart Patients’ Fund was established in June 1988, to lessen the financial burdens faced by those needing heart surgery.

Since its early beginnings, the Fund’s aim has been to provide partial or full financial support to those unable to meet the full cost of heart surgery.

How To Apply

A mother grateful her child's surgery was successful
The Heart Patients’ Fund has been set up to assist those in true need of financial assistance.  Should you know of a dear friend or a loved one who is suffering from heart failure but simply cannot afford the full cost of surgery, tell them about the Heart Patients’ Fund.

Funding from the Heart Patients’ Fund can only be given to Malaysian adults and children.  International children may apply for funding under the Gift of Life Programme.

Application forms for the Heart Patients’ Fund can be obtained from Penang Adventist Hospital.

It is recommended that application forms be submitted at least one month prior to the surgery date so that ample time is given to the Heart Patients’ Fund Committee to review and investigate the application.  The Committee reserves the right to accept or reject applications.

The Heart Patients’ Fund has not turned away any applicant in true need of funding since its inception.

Dissemination of Funds

Funds are given without any bias, but applicants must meet certain requirements in order to qualify.  Amounts distributed for funding vary, based on the situation and need of each recipient.

To ensure that the fund is not misused or abused, background checks are carried out on each applicant by a hospital staff.  Background checks are performed to carefully investigate and fully understand the need of each applicant.

Applicants who provide false information in order to qualify as a beneficiary for the Heart Patients’ Fund will have his/her rights forfeited and lose all funding privileges and support.

Local Heart Patients' Fund

Reunion of former heart patients
The Heart Patients’ Fund had an aim to reach out to the Malaysian community and lessen the financial burdens faced by families of people needing heart surgery for both adults and children alike.

The Fund aids in part and/or in full, the cost of surgery, otherwise not affordable by the patients and their family.

In partnership with Rotary International’s Gift of Life Programme, the Heart Patients’ Fund has benefited Malaysian children and given them the precious gift of life!

International Children's Heart Patients' Fund

First batch of Cambodians meet the press
Going beyond borders to help others in need the Heart Patients’ Fund set up a separate International Children’s Heart Patients’ Fund to assist international children unable to afford the full cost of surgery.

Since its inception in 1999, the Fund has benefited children from developing countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia and Philippines under the Gift of Life Programme.  Children who were otherwise deprived of a normal life are now healthy, normal children, living a life they deserve.

Kardiac Kids

Since the inception of Penang Adventist Hospital’s Heart Patients’ Fund, many hearts – both adults and children have been mended.  Though initially benefiting mostly adults, the Fund was open to all in true need.

The Heart Patients’ Fund even sponsored heart patients in true need to receive corrective heart surgery overseas to countries as far as Australia.  However, since the growth of the heart programme at Penang Adventist Hospital, patients are able to receive high-tech, high-quality treatment in Malaysia, a country that the patients call home.

In going beyond borders to help others in need, the Heart Patients’ Fund recently set up the International Children’s Heart Patients’ Fund that has benefited children from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Cambodia and Philippines.

In partnership together with Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Penang, the Gift of Life Programme at Penang Adventist Hospital has benefited Malaysian children as well as other children from developing countries in true need, through the presence of the Heart Patients’ Fund.
