Medical Charity Fund
Penang Adventist Hospital has been actively involved in charity
work since its early beginnings in 1924. Through the hospital's development
over the years, charity work has never stopped. Setting up the
Heart Patients' Fund in 1988 was
just another step in the hospital's growing dedication to better-serving the
less fortunate.
Medical Social Services
Increasing its commitment to the community, the hospital hired a
Medical Social Officer in the beginning of 1997 to attend to, investigate and
report on charity cases in Penang Adventist Hospital. A Charity Fund Committee
was also formed to carefully determine the worthy poor patients.
Medical Social Officer
The Medical Social Officer is here to better serve the needs of
those applying for charity help. Under the direction of the Medical Social
Officer, the department of Medical Social Services assist patients and/or
patients' relatives to remove and reduce obstacles when seeking healthcare
treatment in our hospital by showing God's love and providing financial,
emotional and social support.
The Medical Social Officer liaises with doctors, nurses, other
health professionals, as well as community resources and welfare agents in
providing solutions for patients who are unable to meet medical costs.
Funding for Hospital Charity
A Sabbath Charity Fund, which is income generated from the
hospital during the Sabbath hours, (sunset Friday till sunset Saturday) is set
up for financing the social services. The Charity Fund is controlled and
administered by the Charity Fund Committee and Administrators of the hospital.
Beneficiaries
Criteria for application:
- To apply for the Charity Fund, kindly proceed to the Patient
Business Office.
- To see the Medical Social Officer for an application form (available in
Bahasa Malaysia and English).
Information submitted by applicants of the Charity Fund are kept
strictly confidential and eligibility will be determined by the Charity Fund
Committee. The beneficiary will be informed once the decision has been made.
Follow-up Care
The beneficiary must make arrangements to meet with the doctor.
Should follow-up care be necessary, the Medical Social Officer will pay home visits.
Education
The hospital has various programs, seminars and activities that promote health and
healthful living methods.
Referral and Transfer
Should beneficiaries of the hospital wish to transfer to other social agencies, it is
the responsibility of the beneficiary (or his/her family) to make the necessary arrangements.
Community Participation
Penang Adventist Hospital has actively been involved in community
work. The hospital allows its ambulances, nurses and doctors to participate in
social and health programs and functions run by the government and/or other
social agencies. Doctors and nurses are involved in blood donation drives and
support fund raising activities that involve helping the needy.
