Cambodian Arrives For Corrective Heart Surgery (June 14, 2001)

PENANG, Wed. – Six year old Noy Channa was immediately attended to by Penang Adventist Hospital doctors and staff on his arrival at the Bayan Lepas International Airport here yesterday afternoon.

Accompanied by his grandmother, the Cambodian boy was then whisked to the hospital where he is scheduled to undergo a corrective heart surgery tomorrow.

He is among the six Cambodian children who are here to undergo corrective heart surgery.

They are the second batch of Cambodian children from the Angkor Hospital for children who will undergo the surgery at the Penang Adventist Hospital under the Gift of Life 2001 Programme.

The others are Mach Kunthea, one, Moeuth Sarath, two, Ny Nuon, three, Phan Chea, 11 and Hy Inn, 14.

They were accompanied by their mothers and AHC’s Dr Lab Yoeung and nurse Phearon Seng.

The group was greeted at the airport by PAH cardiac nurses educator Easter Chong, public relations manager Cheah See Lin, development co-ordinator Rachel Phoon, and customer service officer Frances Lai.

Also present were Rotary Club of Penang president Nutan Shah, its community services director Michael Chen and a several club members.

Meanwhile, Chen, in apealing to the public to donate to the Gift of Life programme, said the fund would also benefit Malaysian and other Southeast Asia children with congenital heart diseases.

The first batch of four Cambodian children arrived in Penang in May.

Donations to the Gift of Life programme may be sent to the Rotary Club of Penang, Gift of Life 2 Account, c/o 7 Jalan Kelawei, 10250, Penang.

Those who donate RM100 or more may request for a receipt to claim tax exemption.
