New Lease Of Life For Cambodian Children (June 28, 2001)
PENANG, Wed – Three more Cambodian children with heart problem
will leave for home tomorrow to start new lives after successfully undergoing
corrective heart surgery at the Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) here tow weeks ago.
Unfortunately, a fourth child, Moeuth Sarath, two, will go home
without undergoing surgery as doctors here found that her heart condition is
already inoperable.
The children, who were accompanied by their respective mothers –
Sun Rouen, Am Ty, Huth Yan and Nhek Serey – took time to soak in some of the
sights of Penang on the eve of their departure for home.
Among the places they visited today were the famous Temple of the
Reclining Buddha (Wat Chaiyamangalaram) in Lorong Burma, the Botanical Gardens
and the Batu Ferringhi beaches.
The group, together with their accompanying Cambodian male nurses,
Pherom Seng and Som Sophal, were taken on a tour of Penang’s attractions by PAH
marketing manager Roy Lee and customer services officer Frances Lai this
afternoon.
Two other young Cambodian heart patients – one year old boy Ith
Dimang and six-year-old Noy Channa – did not join the group.
They were indisposed and would not be returning home until a later
date.
Noy Channa has successfully undergone corrective heart surgery on
June 17 but is reportedly having a fever, while Ith Dimang is deemed still unfit
to have his lungs have collapsed.
They are among 45 children selected to undergo corrective heart
surgery under the programme
