Baby Needs Funds For Open Heart Surgery (July 31, 2001)

PENANG, Tues. – An eight month old baby girl urgently needs RM22,000 to undergo an open heart surgery at the Penang Adventist Hospital.

S.Reenita suffers from a congenital heart disease or a hole in the heart since her birth last November.

Her father, K.Supramaniam, 38, and mother J.S. Chandraprema, 32, today appealed to the public "to save our daughter’s life"

"We do not have enough money and counting on your generosity to pay for Reenita’s surgery," Supramaniam said at a Press conference arranged by the Malaysian Hindu Sangam (MHS) Penang.

Also present was MHS Penang social and welfare committee chairman P.Murugiah.

Supramaniam earns RM1,000 a month a medical X-ray operater at a private clinic while Chandraprema is a housewife.

The couple also has a four year old son.

The council, which is organising a fund raising campaign for Reenita, will also appeal for financial assistance from the Penang Adventist Hospital and American International Assurance open heart surgery fund.

Cheques must be made payable to "Malaysian Hindu Sangam" with the words "Reenita Medical Fund" written overleaf and sent to the Treasurer, Malaysia Hindu Sangam – Penang State Council, 35 Lebuh Cecil, 10300 Penang.
