Adventist In Search Of A Child In Need (November 21, 2001)

PENANG, Tues: The Penang Adventist Hospital is looking for a child in urgent need of corrective heart surgery as it has excess funds to help.

The money was raised for two year-old Chen Wei Sen who underwent a successful corrective heart surgery on Aug 29.

Wei Sen’s construction worker father paid only RM4 while the balance of RM17,000 was covered by the hospital’s Heart Patient Fund and Gift of Life programme run by Rotary International and Penang Rotary Club.

"The Adventist College of Nursing helped out by selling T-shirt, groundnuts and nasi lemak and managed to raise RM19,326 with five months from May," vice-president of director of nursing Chan Soon Kew said.

She said the nurses’ social committee then topped up the amount to make it RM20,000.

A mock cheque for the moment was handed over to fund chairman Lim Chooi Eng on Sunday.

Chan said they hope find a child of another race as recipient of the fund.

The fund is meant for patients aged 18 and below who come from low income families.

The candidates will be assessed by representative from the hospital’s medical social service.
