Event: Giving and Sharing

In the Spirit of Giving and Sharing

On December 13, 2002, staff of Penang Adventist Hospital visited two homes—the Salvation Army as well as the Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged to spread some festive cheer to the children and the elderly at the two homes respectively.

The first stop on a Friday afternoon was to the Salvation Army to give the children an ice cream treat which they enjoyed. Christmas gifts were also distributed to a total of 36 residents, together with some basic medical supplies that were donated to the Salvation Army.

The second stop was at the Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged where gifts of basic necessities such as pillows, toilet rolls, soap, shampoo and towels were distributed to over 230 residents.

In support of a staff-initiated outreach programme, President and Chief Executive Officer of Penang Adventist Hospital, Mr Teddric J Mohr was present at the visitation.

"We have been a part of the community for over 78 years and this year, the staff wanted to do something special for both the young and old," commented Mohr. "I'm glad that they have gone beyond their call of duty in serving just our patients, but even our community."

Such joy to receive gifts
"As part of our mission in making a difference in the lives of the poor and needy, we wanted to share some festive joy with those in need of love and care," commented Mohr. "We in turn have been blessed with experiencing first hand the true joy of giving and sharing."

Gifts were donated solely from the staff of Penang Adventist Hospital as their way of showing the community that they cared.

More gifts to share with residents of Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged
This is the hospital’s first outreach programme but not its last—we look forward to future outreach programmes with staff participation.

To the many who gave of their time, talent and gifts—thank you! We wished you could be there to witness their smiles.
