PAH Staff Respond to Fire Victims

Hospital Staff handing over a RM1,000 dovation to Lee Thuan Chye for the fire victims

In the early morning of January 7, 2003, 50 families were displaced from what used to be their homes. According to Mr Lee Thuan Chye, Coordinator for the Fire Relief Victims, he said, "They were in such a rush to save their own lives that they took with them nothing from the house."

Basic necessities from mattresses to school books and clothes were burned to the ground, together with everything within the four walls of their wooden huts.

In response to appeals for help, staff of Penang Adventist Hospital contributed a total of RM1,000 to help the victims through this difficult time. Representing the hospital to hand over the donation were Medical Social Officer, Mdm Tam Man Lin and Food and Beverage Manager, Mr Audee Cheah.

This was the second community outreach programme organized by the Development Department. The first was in December of 2002, reaching out to the Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged and Salvation Army residents.
