Sunday Charity Bazaar ~ Fun Under the Sun
On a bright Sunday morning of July 9, there were a total of 35 stalls set-up by the
hospital staff and other vendors in the Penang Adventist Hospital grounds.
It was a Sunday Charity Bazaar organized for the first time by the hospitals Care Club.
The Care Club is an employee giving campaign launched in December 2005, which encourages
employees to pledge towards the charity funds in the hospital.
Participation also included charitable organizations like Asia Community Service,
Persatuan Sadhu Vaswani and Eden Handicap Centre, colleges and secondary schools
students who sold craftwork, second-hand items and food.
The highlight of the bazaar was definitely the Shave-a-thon held at the hospitals poolside.
Four hospital staff had their heads shaved for charity! Donations were collected among the
hospital staff to see them become skinhead.
These courageous and sporting bunch namely Andy Teh, Performance Improvement Manager,
Daniel Damaraj, security guard, Jim Tan, Environmental Services Director, and Lloyd Lee,
HR training manager, raised over RM2, 000 for this event. Hairstylist Dash Chong from
Baptain Hair Academy conducted the headshaving ceremony voluntarily.
This is the wonderful opportunity for the hospital employees to give back to the community
in a creative and fun way, said Andy Teh, the brainchild behind the Shave-a-thon project.
Besides this, Fitness First demonstrated their Body Pump and Jam workouts while games were
also held with interesting prizes.
The highest sale among the employees came from the staff
in Maternity Ward, who raised RM1,000 through their sales of clothes, shoes, food and
kitchenware. The event raised a total of RM5,000 in aid of the Dr J Earl Gardner Fund.
