Children's HeartLink Misson Trip to Operate on
12 Charity Heart Patients - For FREE

Penang Adventist Hospital shall be bringing in a volunteer team of heart specialists know as Children's HeartLink ( http://www.childrensheartlink.org ), and make it possible for heart surgeries to be carried out for FREE at the hospital

The team of doctors and nurses come from all parts of the United State and have donated of their time to make their inaugural trip to Southeast Asia in May 2004 to perform heart surgeries for 12 charity cases in Malaysia.

Children's HeartLink has selected Penang Adventist Hospital has their partner site for this mission trip that shall take place from May 6 till May 14, 2004

The Chirldren's HeartLink, founded in 1969 is an international medical charity dedicated in the treatment and prevention of heart disease in need children.

This is part of the Hospital's on-going mission in helping the poor and needy in Malaysia.


The visiting team from the US consists of the below:
  • Dr. Daniel Cohen - Cardiac Surgeon
  • Dr. Laura Diaz - Anaesthesiologist
  • Dr. Janet Simsic - ICU / Cardiologist
  • Ms. Geraldine Pearce - OR Nurse
  • Mr. Dean Dyke - ICU Nurse
  • Ms. Mindy Blackwell - Perfusionist

Qualifying Criteria are as follows:
  1. A child's medical diagnosis (both for cardiac and other complications) should fall within a reasonable "stretch" of what normally treated by the site team.
  2. Children's age should be between 1 and 18 years.
  3. All children should be financially needy, not only in terms of the treatment needed but also general living standards within Malaysia.
  4. Children with cardiac conditions requiring multiple surgeries or children with other major medical problems generally would not be considered.

All three sponsors have contributed RM38,400 each to make it possible for 12 charity patients to undergo heart surgeries. The total funding for the Children’s HeartLink Project is RM115,200, with RM9,600 allocated per child.
