World Heart Day - SmartHEART Campaign

To enjoy a full and productive life you need a healthy heart. Today, one out of three deaths around the globe is due to heart disease and stroke. Greater awareness of the disease has resulted in more people seeking early treatment and more lives being saved because of better treatment outcomes.

This year the theme for World Heart Day is "Woman, Heart Disease & Stroke". The Theme for this year is awareness, especially among women, is one of the important preventive measures. In conjunction with this, Penang Adventist Hospital is organizing the "SmartHEART Campaign". The screening will enable you to have your heart checked out, and to help you reduce the risk of heart disease. Adventist Heart and Vascular Centre is pleased to offer you heart screening packages at special discounted prices, effective from 1st until 30th September 2003.

How does the Heart Screening package benefit you?

By taking up this screening, you will be able to:

Identify your coronary risk factors
Make the necessary modification through lifestyle changes.
Detect possible abnormalities, to seek early treatment.
Meet up with the Heart Care Team for personal advice and recommendation (based on individual report).

Why check your heart?

Heart Disease is a silent killer, you may get a Heart Attack without any early signs and symptoms.
It is not too late to seek treatment for heart disease.

What are the risk factors?

If you suffer from diabetes, high cholesterol levels are overweight and have high blood pressure
You have a family history of Heart Disease, High blood pressure and / or Stroke
If you adopt poor lifestyle habits e.g. smoking, no exercise etc.

Important Note

Please fast at least 6 hours for blood test.
Please wear loose-fitting shirt and jogging shoes for Stress ECG test.

Criteria for "SmartHEART Campaign"

Female & Male over 35 years old
You have previous history of heart attack, angina (chest pain) or stroke but has defaulted follow-up or treatment
You are presently under treatment for heart disease but not feeling well recently
You have a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure &/ stroke, Diabetes and sudden death.
You have never had a Heart Risk Assessment done in the past 6 month.
You are a chronic smoker
You have Bypass and Balloon Angioplasty done in the past .6/12, not on any specialist follow up and now have the chest discomfort.
