Exercise Stress Echocardiography

This procedure combines:

  1. Echocardiography
  2. Treadmill stress test

This test is more accurate than a treadmill stress test in assessing coronary artery disease. By performing the stress test, a state of inadequate blood supply to the heart may be induced. Such state can be visualized using an echocardiogram in the form of segmental wall motion abnormality. It is useful to detect coronary artery disease if the cardiologist strongly suspects that the initial treadmill stress test result is incorrect.

Preparation for Stress Echocardiography

We will prepare you as described in treadmill stress test.

You will be asked to lie down on your side as described in the echocardiogram. After the resting echocardiogram is performed, you will be asked to run on the treadmill. Upon peak exercise, the treadmill will be stopped and you will be required to return to the echocardiogram couch as soon as possible so that the second echocardiogram can be performed. Your cardiologist would be able to inform you of the results after reviewing the two different recordings.
