The normal lens in the eye is transparent. Due to factors such as age, the lens can become opaque. Reading and driving become difficult due to diminishing vision.

Treatment Modalities:

  • Phacoemulsification, the latest technique in cataract removal is available at our hospital. The procedure requires a small incision to replace the affected lens with an intraocular lens.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a disorder of the retinal blood vessels that is a complication of diabetes. It is a leading cause of blinding in adults. Retinal blood vessels in diabetics may develop leaks, rupture or form scar tissues. This may cause contraction and distortion of the retina. Early detection and treatment can prevent blindness.

Diagnostic Modalities:

  • Retinal examination
  • Fundus Florescein angiography

Treatment Modalities:

  • Control blood sugar
  • Control of blood pressure
  • Laser treatment (Photocoagulation)

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease in which pressure of the fluid in the eye builds up to a point that the optic nerve is damaged. There are different types of glaucoma but all result in the loss of vision.

Retinal Detachment

The retina is the layer of the eye that acts much like film in the camera enabling us to see. Retina detachment is when the retina separates from the outer layers of the eye thus losing its function. This happens due to thinning and weakness in the retina. Retinal detachment can happen to anybody, although most incidences occur in shortsighted individuals. Each symptom includes flashes of light, floating black spots or blurring of peripheral vision.

Diagnostic Modalities:
