Paediatrics

Penang Adventist Hospital's Paediatrics Department possesses the distinct advantage of being staffed by highly skilled and experienced doctors and nurses who lavish tender loving care in addition to first-class medical attention.

The high rate of successful treatments are also attributed to the conducive environment of the Paediatric Ward, its walls gaily painted with cartoon motifs to create a playful atmosphere where children will feel comfortable.

Paediatrics Playground
A Children Play Room has also been built to simulate a natural environment with green 'grass' carpet, skylight and a playground atmosphere is emulated with swings and slides.

The Department of Paediatrics has the dedicated support of our Diagnostic Imaging Department, Pharmacy, Laboratory and Operation Theatre. Our friendly and caring staff in the wards provides the best care possible. However, if you desire, a female adult may accompany infants and children admitted to the ward.

Asthma Support Group

Bronchial Asthma or Respiratory Allergy is a very common chronic childhood illness. Despite of availability of safe and effective drug treatment for asthma, studies have shown significant morbidity & mortality. It's prevalence is increasing and a local study found that 13.8% of primary scholl children in K.L. to be ashmatic. A large number of our pediatric patients (about 30%) are asthmatic.

There are many parents who are not well informed about this condition, and this lead them to wrong perceptions regarding steroid inhalers; complications/adverse effetcs and prophylactic treatment. Another common problem is the wrong technique in using the inhalation devices.

To our knowledge, there is no support group for children with Bronchial Asthma in Penang. By having our own support group we hope to be able to educate these group of parents improve the management of asthma among our pediatric patients.

Therefore with the combination of effective medical treatment and asthma education, we hope to improve asthma control and quality of life, whereby these children are able to lead a more healthy and active life despite of their illness.
